RED HOT AND TASTY: This Kniphofia uvaria, commonly known as a Red-hot poker or Torch plant, gets only rain water, says Michael Barrett of El Sobrante. But apparently it gets plenty. The hummingbirds certainly enjoy it. Kniphofia is native to southern and tropical Africa, and prefers deep, fertile, humus-rich soil, moist but well-drained (sandy soil is perfect). It also likes full sun to partial shade. Send your favorite photos along with details to the Times, Home & Garden, P.O.
