LAKES

ALMANOR — Smallmouth bass are on the east and west shores. Use Rapalas, Gitzits or crickets. Troll for trout along the west shore and find salmon near the dam with anchovy tails. 530-258-3327.

BERRYESSA — Bass are taking pumpkin-colored plastics in shallow water near rocky outcroppings. Trout and salmon are down 40 to 60 feet below the surface in the narrows. Crappie fishing is good at night with minnows or jigs. 707-966-7708.

CAMANCHE — There's a good catfish bite in the narrows and the north shore. Bass are taking topwater lures early and late. Trollers are getting trout 20 to 25 feet below the surface and at the South Shore Pond. Two trout larger than 9 pounds were taken from the South Shore Pond last week. 209-763-5914, 209-763-5166.

CHABOT — Trolling for trout is the best way to catch fish. Work from the Burner to the Dam with Rapalas. Catfishing is picking up. Plants will begin later this month. 510-247-2526.

CLEAR — Cool weather and strong winds confounded bass fishing efforts here last week. Drop-shotting was the most productive method but frogs also attracted bass. Weeds are blooming making bass harder to find. 707-279-4739.

CONTRA LOMA — Bass and trout have become elusive and most are lucky to pick a fish here or there. No big fish have been weighed in of late. 925-757-0404.

DAVIS — Cold and wind have made fishing uneven. Experienced

trollers are catching limits to near limits by trolling six to 20 feet deep with Cinnamon and Olive wooly buggers, Needlefish, Dick nites, Rainbow runners and Rapalas Shore fishing is slow. Fly fishing is fair for most. The early stages of the damsel hatch has started and when it gets in full swing, historically the fly fishing heats up. 530-832-5251.

DEL VALLE — Trout fishing continues to be good. Two trout in the 11-pound class were caught last week and a number of fish in the 5- to 9-pound class were weighed in. Striped bass in the 24-inch class come from the dam. Catfish are along the shoreline all over the lake. 925-449-5201.

LAFAYETTE — Trout fishing is on the slow side but the determined can get a fish or three from the south cove. Bass are taking plastics and Senkos. There are catfish in the south and east coves. Catfish plants begin next week. 925-284-9669.

LOS VAQUEROS — Catfish are plentiful in front of the Marina and along the rock wall. Trout are taking small spinners near the mouth of Howden Cove. Striped bass are in the coves on the eastern side of the lake. 925-371-2628.

NEW MELONES — Kokanee are scattered and limits are difficult but many of the fish are in the 1- to 11/2-pound range. Trout are in the main lake near Glory Hole Point and the Spillway. 209-586-2383.

PARDEE — Trollers have been doing well at the River Mouth, Rock Wall and all along the River Arm up to Indian Rock. Also explore the Dam and the Narrows. Bank fishing is tough. 209-772-8108.

QUARRY LAKES — Trout fishing is steady for smallish trout. Limits aren't out of the question. Catfish plants begin the last week of June but trout stocks will continue on alternating weeks. 510-795-4883.

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR — Trout plants have ended for the season but there's still decent trout fishing to be had. The catfish bite is picking up. 510-223-1661.

SHADOW CLIFFS — Trout have retreated to deeper water but another plant on Tuesday may keep satisfied shoreline bank dunkers. Catfish plants are expected by the end of the month. Bass fishing is good in the arroyo. 925-846-3000.

SHASTA — Shad-patterned lures trolled 80 feet below the surface get trout and salmon. 530-275-4939.

TRINITY/LEWISTON — The lake level continues to fall but the bass fishing remains very good. It appears the bass haven't spawned and are along the banks in three feet of water. Lewiston has water running through it and the trout are becoming more active. 530-623-4999, 530-623-4352.

RIVERS

SACRAMENTO (Lower) — Trout fishing is very good with stable releases of 10,000 cfs. The water is clear. Shad have moved into the upper reaches of the Sacramento. Winds have made things difficult of late. 530-221-6151.

TRINITY — The river is fishable at 2,000 cfs and salmon are at the hatchery. This level will hold until July 9, when it will drop again. 530-623-4999.

TRUCKEE — Favorable flows on the main river make trout fishing productive. Green Drake nymphs are starting to get active. Quigleys Green Drake, Burk's Drake, and Barr's Tungsten Teaser will all produce strikes. Throwing a streamer in some slower stretches with a sink tip or full sink line may produce a nice fish. The water is warming and the fish are starting to rise occasionally. 530-587-4844.

DELTA

FRANK'S TRACT — Black bass fishing has been stable for fish in the 1- to 3-pound class. Drop-shotting, Senkos and crankbaits all work. 925-625-2441.

RIO VISTA — Sturgeon are being caught in Prospect Slough and Cache Slough. There are still legal striped bass off Decker Island and Sandy Beach. Catfish are in all the sloughs. 707-374-2372.

TRACY — Fishing for catfish has picked up. Clams and anchovies work best. Grant Line Canal, Fabian Slough and Bell Slough have been productive. Black bass fishing is worth trying. 209-835-3182.

SALTWATER

BERKELEY/EMERYVILLE — The New Huck Finn came back Tuesday with limits of halibut for 13. There are a few striped bass in the mix. Winds have made trips outside the Gate problematic. 510-237-3474, 510-654-6040, 510-223-5388.

PACIFICA — The beach below the RV Park in Pacifica has been the hot spot for striped bass. Early morning or late evening produce fish to 20 pounds. Hairraisers, top water lures or pile worms or blood worms. Crab fishing is good so act now because the season ends June 30. There a some perch on the beaches. 650-355-8303.

PILLAR POINT — The wind has kept boats in for the last eight days. 650-726-7133.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY — Halibut fishing has been good at Hunters Point. Frozen bait or live shiners have been productive. No striped bass have been reported. 650-589-3474.

SAN PABLO BAY — The wind died down and the halibut fishing picked right up. Biggest halibut of the week has been a 28-pounder. Drifting live shiners has been very productive. There are a few striped bass in the vicinity but halibut fishing is so good, there's little attention on the bass. 415-456-0321.

SUISUN BAY — Striped bass fishing has picked up at the Mothball Fleet. Trolling with plugs has been productive. Sturgeon are at Ozol and the first row of ships. 925-229-9420.
