LAKES

BERRYESSA — Get down 40 to 60 feet for trout or salmon. Crappie fishing is good at night, and catfish are prowling the shallows and taking chicken liver and hot dogs. Bass fishing is steady. 707-966-7708.

CAMANCHE — Trout plants have ceased for the summer, but troller still do well working 35 to 45 feet below the surface in the morning hours. Catfish are becoming more active along the shorelines. 209-763-5914, 209-763-5166.

CHABOT — Plants of trout and catfish continue to go into the lake, but the best trout fishing is early before the water warms. Bass take worms and jigs. 510-247-2526.

CLEAR — Bass are spread out among the weeds in the north end of the lake. Plenty of bass in the 3- to 5-pound class with a good representation of larger fish being taken. 707-279-4739.

CONTRA LOMA — The water level is rising after the completion of dam repairs, but fishing is on the slow side. Catfish are being caught from the Channel Point fishing dock. Bass are in the same area. 925-757-0404.

DEL VALLE — Trout fishing is best near the dam. Anchor and soak Power Bait for best results. Striped bass are in the narrows off the west bank. Anchovies and shad-patterned lures have brought success. 925-449-5201.

DON PEDRO — A very consistent bite continues for kokanee and king salmon. Fish 45 to 65 feet under the surface for kokes. Effective salmon lures are rolled

shad or anchovies, and Pro-Troll Sting King lures in glow or cop-car. Productive scents this week; for kokes try plain Shoepeg corn or scented corn in either garlic, vanilla or Pautzke's Fire Power Krill. 209-586-2383.

LAFAYETTE — A double plant of trout last week accounted for steady fishing for bait dunkers. Trout to 7 pounds were landed, as well as many 3- to 5-pound rainbows. Bass are taking plastics and Senkos while catfish are in the south and east coves. 925-284-9669.

LOS VAQUEROS — Bass are biting in Howden Cove and Peninsula Cove. Catfish are taking chicken liver, and trout fishing is a viable activity in the morning hours. 925-371-2628.

NEW MELONES — Kokanee fishing has been up-and-down because of the full moon and cold weather. Smaller fish are in shallower water, so go deep, if the 10-inchers are biting. Bass are off the main points. 209-586-2383.

QUARRY LAKES — Tyler Boffenhorn, 13, of Redwood City caught a 9-pound, 10-ounce rainbow on Kastmaster for the top catch of the week. Overall prospects are spotty. Two plants, 500 pounds of trout and 750 pounds of catfish will go in this week. 510-795-4883.

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR — The biggest bass of the season — a 13.8 -pound largemouth landed by Larry Wiggins of Oakland — was caught last week. Otherwise, the focus is on catfish, but there are still a few trout taking bait near the shore. 510-223-1661.

SHADOW CLIFFS — Limits of trout are common for those trolling. Bass fishing has been improving. Catfish plants began last week, and weekly plants will continue through the summer. Trout plants will continue on a monthly basis. 925-846-3000.

SHASTA — Get out early for limits of trout and salmon. Get down 100 feet below the surface with shad-patterned lures. 530-275-4939.

TRINITY/LEWISTON — Trout fishing is best at the mouths of major tributaries. Bass fishing is holding its own, as the lake drops almost a foot per day. Gitzits are best, but there is a top-water bite early and late. 530-623-4999, 530-623-4352.

RIVERS

SACRAMENTO (Lower) — Trout fishing is excellent from Redding to Anderson. The river is flowing at 13,000 CFS, and micro mayflies, caddis and beadhead pheasant tails (#16) produce trout in the 18- to 25-inch range. Bactrolled wee-warts, hot shots or flatfish also produce strikes. 530-221-6151.

TRINITY — The spring salmon run hasn't really kicked in. A few have been caught at Burnt Ranch, but this doesn't get going until after July 4. 530-623-4999.

DELTA

FRANK'S TRACT — Buzz baits and frogs are getting bass. Find a current near a ledge to find bass. Overall fishing has been fair. 925-625-2441.

RIO VISTA — Striped bass are being taken in the early-morning and late-afternoon hours near Sandy Beach and Decker Island, when the winds allow. Most are on the small side. A sturgeon was caught from the Power Lines on Saturday. Pressure is generally light. Catfish are plentiful. 707-374-2372.

SALTWATER

BERKELEY/EMERYVILLE — Striped bass moved into the bay last week, joining the halibut and creating excellent fishing. Hot spot for bass is behind Alcatraz at Mel's Reef. Halibut are everywhere. Rockfishing has been limits at the islands. From Berkeley, the Lovely Martha on Saturday caught 10 halibut to 25 pounds and four bass to 10 pounds. Capt. PACIFICA — Pacifica angling icon Joe Jimno died Monday. Mr. Jimno owned and operated the bait and tack store, Rusty Hook, for the past 11 years after a 20-year run on the Pacifica Pier. A memorial service will be July 16 at 1 p.m at the American Legion Hall in Rockaway. 650-355-8303.

PILLAR POINT — The Queen of Hearts had half-limits of rock cod and two lings on the most recent local trip on Tuesday. The Rip Tide on Monday stayed local and had nine limits, two lings and an 8-pound cabezone. Big seas and high wind kept boats in the harbor Wednesday. 650-726-7133, 650-726-2913.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY — South bay anglers are getting halibut averaging 12 to 15 pounds. Sharks and rays are plentiful. Striped bass fishing is slow with most of the stripers in the main bay. 650-589-3474.

SAN PABLO BAY — Striped bass are at the Brothers, Whaling Station and Red Rock, and halibut are everywhere. The smaller halibut are in the shallow water. It's great fishing. 415-456-0321.
