Lakes

BERRYESSA — Catfish are taking stinkbaits along the shore. Crappie fishing is best at night. Bass fishing has slowed. Trout and salmon are deep. Start at 40 feet below the surface and go deeper until you find fish. 707-966-7708.

CAMANCHE — Bass are in rocky areas 15 feet deep. Trout are being caught for those able to get down 35 to 45 feet below the surface. Catfish are plentiful. 209-763-5914, 209-763-5166.

CHABOT — Trout fishing remains good in the early morning hours. Weekly catfish plants began last week and fishing has noticeably improved. 510-247-2526.

CLEAR — Drop-shotting and casting Senkos has been productive for anglers fishing from mid-lake to Lakeport. The best bite is found around the weeds or in the middle where there is an opening. There is a topwater bite at first light. 707- 279-4739.

CONTRA LOMA — The catfish bite has kicked in. Nightcrawlers or chicken livers work best, and the boat launch has been the top spot. A plant of 500 pounds of catfish went in Tuesday. Trout fishing is fair. 925-757-0404.

DEL VALLE — Trout fishing has improved, with the best bite taking place near the dam. A plant of 750 pounds of trout has helped matters. Catfish also are being planted. 925-449-5201.

LAFAYETTE — The South Cove is producing trout

and the South Cove and east shore has catfish. The bass bite is steady. 925-284-9669.

LOS VAQUEROS — The South Cove and the water in front of the Marina continue to be productive for trout. Striped bass are in the coves along the eastern shore. Night fishing is productive for both catfish and striped bass. 925-371-2628.

NEW MELONES — Kokanee fishing is excellent and limits are common. Many of the fish are on the small side, but larger fish are found in deeper water. Bass fishing is good. Find largemouth off the main points. 209-586-2383.

PARDEE — The River Mouth, Rock Wall and all along the River Arm are the top spots for trollers targeting kokanee and trout. Depths range from 15 to 50 feet. 209-772-8108.

QUARRY LAKES — This lake continues to get plants of both trout and catfish on a weekly basis. Fishing has been good. 510-795-4883.

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR — More than a ton of catfish has been planted over the past two weeks. Trout fishing remains fair for trollers. 510-223-1661.

TRINITY/LEWISTON — Bass fishing is very good at the lake. Trout are in the upper reaches of the lake and fly anglers do well at Stuart's Fork and Coffee Creek. 530-623-4999, 530-623-4352.

Rivers

SACRAMENTO (Lower) — Trout fishing is excellent from Redding to Anderson. The river is flowing at 13,000 CFS and micro mayflies, caddis and beadhead pheasant tails (#16) produce trout in the 18- to 25-inch range. Bactrolled wee-warts, hot shots or flatfish also produce strikes. 530-221-6151.

TRINITY — The river is running at 2,000 cfs and will continue to run high until July 9 and then it will begin to drop. Salmon are moving rather than holding. There are steelhead beginning to show. 530-623-4999.

Delta

FRANK'S TRACT — Fishing has slowed as a summer pattern has emerged. There's plenty of crappie, bluegill and catfish as well as small black bass and striped bass. 925-625-2441.

RIO VISTA — Wind has kept boats off the water. Bank anglers catch small striped bass and catfish. 707-374-2372.

TRACY — Black bass fishing remains productive. Small stripers are common. Catfish are biting, but most are on the slow side. 209-835-3182.

Saltwater

BERKELEY/EMERYVILLE — The Happy Hooker has been drifting Alcatraz and Point Bonita for halibut and striped bass. Six 30-pound halibut were landed Friday to highlight a 24-halibut day. Bass are at the Alameda Rock Wall, the Berkeley Flats and Alcatraz. PILLAR POINT — The Tiger Fish had 12 limits of rock fish and six lings to 14 pounds on a local trip Monday. On Tuesday, the Queen of Hearts had 200 rock fish for 25 anglers, including three lings. SAN FRANCISCO BAY — It's slowed a bit in the South Bay, likely due to large minus tides. Striped bass seem to have vacated the area and moved into the main bay. 650-589-3474.

SAN PABLO BAY — Pressure has been light due to big minus tides but there are still halibut being caught. Tides back off this weekend and fishing should be better. Bass are at the Brothers and the Whaling Station. 415-456-0321.

SUISUN BAY — Buoy 4 has been the hot spot for sturgeon and grass shrimp is the hot bait. No striped bass have been caught in a while. 925-229-9420.
