Lakes

BERRYESSA — Use bait for catfish and plastics for bass. The catfish bite is best. Trout and salmon are deep. 707-966-7708.

CAMANCHE — Chicken livers and anchovies attract catfish along the shorelines. Work rocky structure near dikes 1 and 2 for bass. Trollers toiling for trout find fish 35- to 45-feet below the surface. 209-763-5914, 209-763-5166.

CHABOT — A 29-pound catfish landed last week is the biggest fish of the summer. Get cats with stink baits with sliding sinkers or without any weight. Trout fishing is fair early in the morning. 510-247-2526.

CLEAR — Bass are plentiful to those who drop-shot plastic worms or cast Senkos from mid-lake to Lakeport. Work around the weeds or in the openings. There is a topwater bite at first light. 707-279-4739.

CONTRA LOMA — Fishing has been slow and pressure light. Catfish are the best bet. 925-757-0404.

DAVIS — Bait anglers do well with nightcrawlers or Powerbait in Mallare Bay and Honker Cove. Trolling produces fish near the surface early. By mid-morning get 12 feet under the surface. 530-832-5251.

DEL VALLE — The best bet here is striped bass in the 22- to 24-inch class. Anchovies have been the best bait. A 23-pound catfish last week was caught (and released). Throw bait off the shoreline. Trout are in deep water near the dam. 925-449-5201.

DON PEDRO — Kokanee fishing is good at Graveyard

Bay, Copper Mountain, Oak Hill and Hatch Creek. Use Sockeye Slammers, Scorpion Spinners and fire tiger Kokanee Killers. Trout are plentiful at 40 feet below the surface and salmon are 90 to 140 feet below the surface. 209-586-2383.

LAFAYETTE — Catfish in the 6- to 9-pound range are being taken from the coves in the south and east side of the lake. Trout continue to be caught at morning and evening, although plants have ceased for the summer. 925-284-9669.

LOS VAQUEROS — Trout fishing is fair if you can reach deep water. Catfish and bass have been scarce. 925-371-2628.

NEW MELONES — Dropping water levels are narrowing launching opportunities. Angels ramp soon will close but Glory Hole will remain open. Kokanee fishing is good for smaller fish. Fish are 70 to 90 feet deep. Bigger fish are near the bottom off wind-blown banks. Bass fishing remains good despite falling water levels. There is a topwater bite at morning and evening. 209-586-2383.

PARDEE — Expect to put in time for trout and kokanee. Go to the River Mouth, rock wall and the river arm. Bank anglers do OK at the boat house, Woodpile and Rainbow Point. Catfish are in the coves and behind the marina. 209-772-8108.

QUARRY LAKES — Hot weather has put the bite off here. Lloyd Price from Fremont last week caught a pair of trout totaling 8 pounds and that's been the best reported result. Catfish have been slow. 510-795-4883.

SAN PABLO RESERVOIR — A 19-pound catfish landed last week is the largest fish of the summer. Catfish are plentiful and taking a variety of baits. Bass are taking plastics and swim baits. Trout fishing is slow. 510-223-1661.

TRINITY/LEWISTON — Bass fishing is very good on the north end of the lake near Trinity Center. The lake is low, so boaters beware of submerged rock piles. 530-623-4999, 530-623-4352.

Rivers

KLAMATH — Steelhead are beginning to show in the lower stretches of the river near Johnson's Bar. 530-469-3349.

McCLOUD — Fluctuating flows have made the lower reaches unpredictable. The upper McCloud continues to produce rainbows and browns. 530-222-3555.

SACRAMENTO (Lower) — The river is running at 13,000 CFS and results have been mixed for trout anglers. 530-221-6151.

SACRAMENTO (Upper) — This is fishing well from Box Canyon to the lake. Golden stoneflies have been productive and there have been caddis hatches in the evening. Use nymphs during the day. 530-222-3555.

TRINITY — The river is running high at 1,700 hundred. It is beginning to drop but the fishing is tough. The water is high and salmon are running through. Give this another 10 days when the flows drop to 700 cfs. 530-623-4999.

Delta

FRANK'S TRACT — Black bass fishing is very good for those using snag-proof frogs in weed beds. Some bass have weighed better than 10 pounds. Most are in the two-pound class. Schoole striped bass can be had trolling. 925-625-2441.

RIO VISTA — Black bass and catfish are plentiful along the shoreline — anywhere there is grass. Small striped bass take anchovies and pile worms. 707-374-2372.

TRACY — It's hot and few are venturing out on the water. 209-835-3182.

Saltwater

BERKELEY/EMERYVILLE — Potluck boats inside the Bay have been scoring limits of striped bass. Favorable bass tides brought limits to the Happy Hooker from Saturday through Tuesday. Smaller tides later in the week put the focus back on halibut. Mel's Reef has been the hot spot. On Tuesday, the Happy Hooker hauled in 58 stripers and 26 halibut for 29 anglers. Most of the bass are in the 12- to 14-pound class. A few push 20 pounds. Island trips have been getting limits of rock fish with a scattering of lings. 510-237-3474, 510-654-6040, 510-223-5388.

PACIFICA — There have been bass on the beach, but overall the action has been spotty. 650-355-8303.

PILLAR POINT — On Wednesday the Queen of Hearts took 20 anglers to Pigeon Point and had 145 rock fish, two lings and 12 cabezone. On Tuesday it was early limits for 20 people on a local trip. 650-726-7133, 650-726-2913.

SAN PABLO BAY — An armada of boats have been drifting for halibut between the Sisters and the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. Striped bass are scattered but in no concentration. 415-456-0321.

SUISUN BAY — The best sturgeon bite has been at the Glomar. Striped bass are found in shallow water near Martinez. 925-229-9420.
